Roots and Reflections: Oral Histories of Our Legacy

Apr 28, 2026

On February 28, 2026, Our Legacy Museum proudly hosted its first annual Roots and Reflections: Oral Histories of Our Legacy celebration—an unforgettable evening dedicated to preserving voices that have shaped the Griffin community.

The event was a moving oral history viewing experience featuring powerful, personal stories shared by local legends in their own words. These reflections transcended generations, offering wisdom, honesty, and lived history while honoring the spirit of Black History Month in a deeply meaningful way.

The program was expertly led by Zackary Piercey, serving as Master of Ceremony. Panelists included respected community leaders and trailblazers: Dr. Gerald Hood, Rev. Freddie Phillips, William Dukes, Rev. Chester Milner, City Commissioner Cynthia Ward, Cheryl Head-Rashied, and Minister Shirley Gardner. Each voice added depth and perspective, weaving together a collective story of courage, faith, leadership, and service.

The evening was further enriched by inspiring musical performances from the Griffin High School Chorus, whose voices provided a beautiful bridge between past, present, and future generations.

Roots and Reflections stood as a reminder that our history lives through those who experienced it—and through those who take the time to listen. Due to the overwhelming impact of this inaugural celebration, Our Legacy Museum is already planning for next year’s Roots and Reflections event.

These stories are our legacy—and they will continue to be told.
